Eco Surf Design Allotment Eco Surf Design have an allotment to grow our own veg. The allotment is now in its second year and is looking better than ever. August Some good weather this month and every thing has grown so that the plot resembles the amazon rain forest. Under all the foliage there are main crop potatoes, spinach, corgettes, and onions ready to be harvested. July This month has been so wet we hardly have visited the allotment at all. When we have got there the slugs have grownand grown and are now the size of mice! But still we managed to pick mange tout peas, broad beans and some soft fruit. April Update- Beer traps This week on the allotment the first carrots have come up. So far, these have always been eaten by slugs within days... but we have a secret weapon in the form of beer traps (a plastic cup burried in the ground half filled with cheap french larger). It remains to be seen which is more tempting, carrots or beer.... I know which I prefer. Other new plants this month are spring cabbages, broad beans and rhubarb. Theres lots going on on our window sill as well. This is the nursery area where plants are grown to get a head start, or until they are big enough to withstand the slugs. Among the seedlings here are basil, lettuce, pak choi, spinach, sweetcorn and corgettes. March- This week first onions showing through! We are growing beetroot, leeks, onions, garlic and purple sprouting brocolli at the moment, bu the season has hardly started. Soon we will be planting early spinach, potatoes, beans, carrots, the list goes on..... |
